My ancestor Joseph Colville Vance (1759-1809) was born in Virginia and married Sarah Wilson in 1781 there. In 1783 he moved his family to Washington County, PA. In 1788 they rafted down the Ohio River to Kentucky, and about 1799 or 1800 they moved to Greene County, OH, where they stayed till about 1805. From Greene County they moved to Champaign County (Urbana).
Joseph and Sarah Vance these children: John Wilson Vance (18 Mar 1782-6 May 1857; fought in War of 1812; m. Peggy Lemen on 6 Sep 1808; 2nd married Margaret Rutherford; moved to Illinois in 1824; knew Lincoln; served in legislature); David Vance (b. ~1783 in Wash. Co., PA; m. Jane Runyan 22 Feb 1805; d. 3 Aug 1823); Joseph Colville Vance (b. 21 Mar 1786 in Wash Co., PA; m. Mary Lemen 17 Dec 1807; fought in War of 1812; served in Congress; bought land in Hancock Co.; governor; d. 24 Aug 1852); Jane Vance Taylor (b. 1788 in Wash Co., PA; m. John V. Taylor 9 Feb 1809; died 29 Jan 1869); Samuel Vance (b. ~1787 Wash. Co., PA; m. Tea-tesk-gna in 1808; operated store at Ft. Meigs with brother Wilson Vance; judge in Wood Co.; ran tavern along Maumee River in what is now Henry Co.); William (b. 20 June 1793 in Vanceburg, Mason Co., KY; m. Clara Crane 15 Nov. 1838; lived Union Twp, Champaign Co.; d. 11 Sept 1866); Wilson Vance (b. 19 Jan 1796 in Mason County, KY; m. Sarah Wilson (b. 28 Jun 1801, d. 3 Mar. 1866); d. 30 Sep 1862 in Findlay, OH) -- [Sarah’s parents were Miles Wilson and Jenette Vance (b. 1763; d. 22 July 1842), who was a daughter of David Vance and Janet _______ - so she and Wilson were cousins, both having David as a grandfather] Bridget Vance Muzzy (b. 18 Apr 1801 in Greene Co., OH; cared for by brother Joseph when JCV Sr. died; m. Horace Muzzy 9 Nov 1826; d. 18 May 1887); George Vance (?); Moses Baird Vance (b. ~ 1804 in Greene Co., OH; lived with Bridget; may have married Elizabeth Workman 23 Nov. 1823; d. 1871) I'd love to hear from anyone with connections to or knowledge of any of these ancestors. I'm looking for information on Wade Hampton McIntosh. He was born around 1882 in Greene County (supposedly). He had one son with his second wife (Bonnie Lou Hillin McIntosh), Charles Lee McIntosh, and three daughters. He was an attorney in Montgomery County, Ohio in his later years.
Any information about this family would be very helpful. Thanks! Cindi McIntosh |
